Growing up, I have always enjoyed writing. The first book I wrote was during my sophomore year of high school. I am fascinated by words, the emotions they evoke and the journey they take us on. In college, one of my favorite English professors encouraged me to start a writer’s notebook, to capture my thoughts on a daily basis. Since then, I have filled a mountain of notebooks and have encouraged others to do the same.
I studied Elementary Education, earning a double major in Language Arts and Mathematics, for my Bachelors degree. After I graduated, I eagerly began teaching first grade, for five wonderful years. One of my passions is to help children learn and grow, especially in the area of language and literacy. For this reason, I went back to school and earned my Reading Specialist Master’s degree. Many of the stories I’ve written incorporate pieces of my life as an educator. I’ve learned that taking the time to read with a child is one of the most important and influential gifts we can give.
Now, I have the pleasure of reading with my own daughter and in a few months, my son too. It is such a joy to share my favorite books and authors with my child. Being a parent has helped me grow as a person and a writer. My daughter allows me experience the world through a new lens that I look forward to integrating into my stories.
